PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Our home is 2.5 miles from the Stoughton commuter rail stop (bottom red arrow), but unfortunately this line does not operate during the weekend. If you would like to book your stay in the heart of Boston and use public transportation for the weekend, you can do so by riding the commuter rail to Canton Junction (second to lowest red arrow) and calling an Uber or Lyft to take you 6.5 miles to our house.
This may be a great option for folx looking to imbibe at the wedding while avoiding driving or a pricey Uber ride to the hotel, not to mention the opportunity to fully experience one of the most walkable cities in the country.
COST
Train:
$10 special Holiday weekend pass rate for unlimited commuter rail rides from Saturday October 7th to Monday October 9th. Click here to visit the MBTA website and scroll to the bottom for more details on holiday rate passes.
The most convenient way to purchase these tickets is by downloading the free mTicket app through the app store. You can also purchase standard $10 weekend passes onboard with a debit or credit card.
Uber/Lyft:
The approximate cost of Uber/Lyft rides from the slightly further Canton Junction stop is $20-$35 depending on the time of day. This may vary during the holiday weekend. Up to 6 passengers can be transported in each Uber/Lyft vehicle, or $6 per commute per person if carpooling.
TOTAL COST = approximately $22 per person.
TRANSPORTATION SCHEDULE FOR THE WEDDING DAY
Outbound (South Station to Canton Junction):
Train leaving South Station at 2:20 PM will arrive in Canton Junction at 2:49 PM. The ride to our home is approximately 20 minutes. Estimated arrival ~ 3:10 PM with a hard start time for the ceremony of 3:30 PM.
Inbound (Canton Junction to South Station):
Train leaving Canton Junction at 10:15 PM will arrive in South Station at 10:45 PM. An Uber or Lyft will need to be called by 9:20-9:30 PM at the latest to ensure you arrive at the station before the train departs.
TOTAL TRAVEL TIME = 50 minutes each way or 1 hour and 40 minutes total
